A scientific paper embraced by many chronic

A scientific paper embraced by many chronic fatigue syndrome patients as a ray of hope is being retracted by the journal that published it after a tumultuous year that included allegations cheap moncler jackets of data manipulation and the arrest of the study's lead researcher on a felony charge of possessing stolen property. In the paper, published in 2009 by the journal Science, researchers reported they had found evidence of a retrovirus called XMRV in the blood of patients diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome much more frequently than in the blood of healthy peers. The paper caused a stir and led other scientists to try to confirm the findings. Patients rejoiced at the possibility of an explanation for their illness, which has long confounded researchers. Some patients even began taking antiretroviral drugs designed to treat a different retrovirus, HIV moncler outlet 2011. At the same time, the paper's lead researcher, Judy Mikovits, then employed at the Whittemore Peterson Institute for Neuro-Immune Disease in Reno, began linking XMRV to other frustrating disorders, including autism and Gulf War syndrome, without publishing data to support her statements. Soon, independent teams of scientists began reporting they could not find evidence of the retrovirus in the blood of chronic fatigue patients or anyone else. Researchers hypothesized that lab contamination could have caused the original findings. Mikovits denied it. Then, several authors on the original paper reported their data were flawed, resulting in a partial retraction. Science's staff attempted to get the paper's authors — including Mikovits — to agree to a full retraction, but the group could not agree on the wording, Science executive editor Monica Bradford said in an interview. In particular, Mikovits and others wanted to include a statement that they had confidence in their larger conclusions about the presence of the virus, Bradford said. But some of the authors were uncomfortable with that, as was Science, she said. On Thursday, Science's editor in chief, Bruce Alberts, said the journal would take the unusual step of retracting the paper itself. Alberts listed several reasons: the partial retraction of data earlier in the year, the failure of multiple labs to reliably find evidence of XMRV in chronic fatigue patients' blood, poor quality control in some of the experiments and the acknowledgment by the paper's authors that they had left out some important information cheap jackets for women. "Science has lost confidence in the report and the validity of its conclusions," Alberts wrote. "We regret the time and resources that the scientific community has devoted to unsuccessful attempts to replicate these results." In an interview, Alberts said the episode was an unfortunate waste of time and resources for scientists and for patients. "I think this whole thing has been a tragedy for science," he said. "It is very sad that the patients got tied up and confused by it." Attempts to contact Mikovits were unsuccessful. Annette Whittemore, president of the Whittemore Peterson Institute, said in a statement that the institute would carry on with research on the illness. "It is not the end of the story," she wrote. "Rather it is the beginning of our renewed efforts." At the center of the controversy is Mikovits, the scientist hired to be director of research by the institute, which was founded by the parents of a woman with chronic fatigue syndrome. After the Science paper was published, some patients showered adulation on Mikovits. They wrote to her, crowded her at conferences and set up a defense fund when she ran into legal trouble. One patient signed message board postings: "In Judy We Trust." Mikovits was controversial. Shortly after the paper came out, she spoke at the Autism One conference in Chicago, joining a lineup of speakers that included disgraced autism researcher Andrew Wakefield, who had lost the right to practice medicine in Britain for professional misconduct. There she linked XMRV to autism, a baseless assertion that has since been picked up by some in the autism community. Earlier this year moncler jacket for men, the Chicago Tribune reported that Science was investigating whether data in the original paper had been manipulated after an Oklahoma graduate student, Abbie Smith, pointed out that Mikovits had presented the same figure twice — once in the Science paper and once at a conference — but with different labeling.

The bus driver also was listed

The accident occurred about 7:30 a.m. on cheapburberryoutlet2012 Farm-to-Market Road 93 on the southeastern outskirts of Temple, about 60 miles northeast of Austin. We don't know how Montero will turn out

The biggest reason for their descent to the cellar? It's an offense that has been downright, well, offensive to watch. The Mariners have finished dead last in Major League Baseball in runs scored, batting average, burberry bags 2012 on base percentage, and slugging percentage in each of the past two seasons. Not last in the American league, mind you, last in all of baseball, which includes the 16 National League teams that don't have the benefit of employing a designated hitter. In the previous 20 seasons, an American League team finished last in runs scored only five times, and no team, regardless of league, held that dubious mark in back-to-back seasons. Which is where Montero figures into equation. The 22-year-old from Venezuela has shown tremendous potential at every level since signing with the Yankees organization in 2006. As a late-season call up last year, he batted .328 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 18 games. We don't know how Montero will turn out for the Mariners, just like we don't know for certain if Pineda will continue to grow and become an ace for years to come, and that is part of what makes this trade so interesting. The majority of headline-grabbing trades these days are driven by finances. A team that is out of contention at midseason might move a star for prospects who could help down the road. A small-market Cheap burberry women bikini, 2012 fashion burberry bikini for women team might trade its best player before his final season knowing it can't afford to re-sign him when free agency rolls around. Montero for Pineda -- plus the other smaller pieces reportedly involved in the trade -- is a rare move that both teams made to get better. The Yankees have bats galore, but a shaky rotation that will improve considerably with Pineda in the mix. The Mariners, meanwhile, desperately needed offense, and as much as they would love to keep Pineda, they do have a bunch of talented arms that are close to being Major League ready, including last year's No. 2 overall pick Danny Hultzen, Taijuan Walker and James Paxton. There are questions about where Montero will play. He is listed as a catcher, but spent most of his time with the Yankees as a designated hitter. Even if Montero's catching skills aren't great, would he really be that much worse than Miguel Olivo, who has led the league in passed balls in three of the past five seasons and has been in the top five for errors committed by a catcher in six of the past nine seasons? Wherever Montero plays, the value of a big bat is hard to overstate for this franchise. Nothing is certain, but with Montero, Dustin Ackley, and Justin Smoak, the Mariners at least have some young bats with big upsides. Does that make them contenders this season? Hardly. But it does at least mean there is some hope in the near future with or without Prince Fielder, who has yet to pick a team. Felix Hernandez and Pineda would have been a fun one-two punch to watch at Safeco Field for another decade, and letting a budding star like Pineda go is a risky move. But for a franchise that hasn't made the playoffs in a decade,Cheap burberry - designer bags, shoes, accessories, clothing outlet 2012 and that has redefined offensive futility in recent years, the status quo wouldn't cut it.

I think all of the precautions have been addressed

The problem is that Nome's harbor cheap burberry bags is iced-in, preventing the 370-foot tanker from getting to the city dock. It will have to moor offshore to transfer its 1.3-million-gallon payload across the ice and to fuel headers that feed a nearby tank farm. "I think all of the precautions have been addressed," Nome Harbormaster Joy Baker said Friday. "I think everything that should be done has been done." For days, operations officials have looked at how best to lay the segmented fuel hose across the shore-fast ice for the transfer. The idea is to get the tanker as close to the harbor as possible to reduce the chance of a spill. There has been a lot of anxious waiting since the ship left Russia in mid-December. It picked up diesel fuel in South Korea before traveling to Dutch Harbor, Alaska, where it took on unleaded gasoline. A Coast Guard icebreaker escorted the burberry outlet tanker through the Bering Sea pack ice, the two vessels at times barely crawling along as officials looked for new techniques to get the tanker free of shifting ice. Late Thursday, the Coast Guard Cutter Healy and the Renda stopped six miles offshore to wait for daylight and figure out how to get the tanker within about a mile of the harbor so its hose will reach the dock. Nome Mayor Denise Michels sat in her car Friday morning in record-breaking low temperatures and gazed past the harbor entrance. Her eyes focused on the lights coming from the tanker and the icebreaker just before dawn. "It is right out there. You can see it," she said. "We are pretty excited." That's where the ships remained Friday evening, Coast Guard spokesman David Mosley said. The Coast Guard is evaluating where to place the Renda "where there's enough water around it that the Healy can then break the Renda free once the delivery is done," he said. The Healy can only get so close to shore because it's shallow near Nome. "Out of the safety of the vessels, they're taking the time they need to evaluate where to put the Renda so the operation to shore can be done safely, but then so we can break them free and get them on their way afterward," he said. A lot remains to be done before the fuel transfer can occur, said University of Alaska Fairbanks researcher Greg Walker, who is in Nome providing information about ice conditions near the harbor. The tanker needs to get positioned securely in the ice and moored so it won't move during the process. Crews also need to finish removing large boulders of ice in a rubble field and leveling large pressure ridges to create a flat surface for the transfer hose. Once the tanker gets as close as it safely can designer purses 2012 to the city dock, the ice will have to be allowed to refreeze to keep the ship stable. Then, the hose's segments will have to be bolted together and inspected before the fuel can begin to flow. Personnel will walk the entire length of the hose every 30 minutes to check it for leaks. Each segment will have its own spill containment area, and extra absorbent boom will be on hand in case of a spill. The state is requiring that the fuel transfer be initiated only in daylight hours. The transfer can continue in darkness if there is adequate lighting and other safety considerations, said Betty Schorr, industry preparedness program manager for the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation. Nome's northern latitude leaves it mostly hidden from the sun this time of year, meaning that after Friday's 11:39 a.m. sunrise, there would be just 5 hours and 4 minutes of sunlight. The transfer could be finished within 36 hours if everything goes smoothly, but it could take as long as five days, Schorr said. If successful, it would mark the first time fuel has been delivered by sea to a burberry clothing outlet Western Alaska community in winter.

Gingrich's campaign has begun airing TV ads

His message to them is direct and urgent burberry bags message: Christians are under attack, and Republicans shouldn't trust Mitt Romney to always oppose abortion. "We will not tolerate a speech dictatorship in this country against Christianity," the former House speaker told a crowd of 300 in Rock Hill, South Carolina on Wednesday, railing against what he has called government intrusions on Catholic charities and other religious organizations. Gingrich is one of three conservatives - along with former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum and Texas governor Rick Perry - trying to rally evangelicals here to vote as a group in South Carolina's January 21 primary and slow down Romney's rush to the nomination. Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, has won the first two contests in the nomination process, in Iowa and New Hampshire, and has led recent polls here. But South Carolina - where two-thirds of Republican voters told pollsters in 2008 that they attend church once a week and seven in 10 said they believed abortion should be illegal - could be a tougher venue for Romney. Despite Romney's front-runner status, many conservatives aren't sold on him because of his record in relatively liberal Massachusetts, where he once supported abortion rights. Gingrich, under fire from some fellow Republicans for calling Romney a job killer for his time as a private equity executive, is also attacking Romney with the evangelical audience. In South Carolina, Gingrich's campaign has begun burberry watches outlet airing TV ads that call Romney "pro-abortion," and telling voters that Romney - who says he now opposes the procedure - cannot be trusted to be reliably anti-abortion. Gingrich, who is in his third marriage and is a converted Catholic, is wooing an evangelical electorate in which voters are struggling to decide which Republican candidate best speaks for them. "Politicians are supposed to do the best for God and country," said James Black, 73, who attended a speech by Gingrich in Columbia on Thursday. "I'm looking and praying that God will tell me who to vote for." Pastors here and across the South are facing similar questions in wrestling over whether to accept Romney, or push for an alternative they like better. This weekend, some of the nation's most influential Christian leaders will gather at a ranch near Brenham, Texas, hoping to emerge united behind one candidate. Brad Atkins, president of the South Carolina Baptist Convention, expressed a frustration that no candidate in the Republican field represents the complete package for his followers. "If you could take the articulation of the speaker, if you could take the backbone and tenacity of Rick Perry, the intellectual mind and philosophy of (Texas congressman) Ron Paul and then the youth of Santorum, you'd have the super candidate," Atkins said. "Instead, we've got four men who bring four different things to the table, and it's splintering the (conservative) vote." ATTACKS ON ROMNEY DRAW FIRE In a campaign that has been shaped by some cheap burberry mens shirts for sale conservatives' anxiety over Romney's superior organization and fundraising, Gingrich has been Romney's most vociferous critic. The former speaker has called Romney a "liar" and mocked him as a "Massachusetts moderate." Challenging Romney's views on abortion marks a change of focus for Gingrich, who spent much of the New Hampshire primary questioning the frontrunner's business career at Bain Capital, a private equity firm co-founded by Romney. Gingrich, who finished a distant fourth in the January 10 vote, called Romney a job killer because Bain laid off thousands of workers after taking over their companies. Some Republicans have called Gingrich's criticisms anti-capitalist, and against the values of the party. But this week, there have been signs that Gingrich's assault on Romney's record on abortion also was displeasing some key Republicans. South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, a Tea Party stalwart and the most influential political figure in the state, told a radio interviewer on Wednesday that Gingrich should drop the attack. "I think it's fine to point out people's records, but the only way we're going to ever win the battle for life is to convince a lot of people that used to be pro-choice to be pro-life," DeMint said. Gingrich spokesman R.C. Hammond dismissed DeMint's criticism. "He did welcome Mitt Romney to the pro-life tent," Hammond said of Gingrich. "And then (Romney) governed pro-abortion" in Massachusetts. 'LOOKING FOR AUTHENTICITY' Gingrich's ability to connect with evangelical voters cheap burberry shoe for men may hinge on whether they can stomach the well-publicized drama that has occurred in his personal life.

Pittsburgh has scored only six goals

"You look at where we are in standings, it's not very nice spot," Vokoun said. "It's a tough league; no matter who you play, any night it's tough game. We have some trouble on the road, so we've burberry outlet got to cash in at home." Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury wasn't tested much until the third period, when he faced nine shots, including four from Alex Ovechkin. He came up with several important saves, including one with 10 minutes left on a Karl Alzner one-timer from the slot that was set up by Ovechkin, but his 20 saves in the game weren't enough to stop the Penguins downward spiral. Pittsburgh has scored only six goals during its six-game losing streak. Prior to sliding south, the Penguins had won four in a row and seven of their previous 11 games dating back to a 2-1 win at Verizon Center on Dec. 1. However, they are just 5-9-0 since Crosby left the lineup with a recurrence of concussion symptoms. Crosby, who has been out since Dec. 8, joined the Penguins on this trip, which will continue in South Florida on Friday. He watched Wednesday's game from the press box and is expected to skate in Florida, but Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said prior to the game that there is still no timetable for Crosby's return. Crosby's teammates don't anticipate him riding to the rescue any time soon. "I don't think he's anywhere close to coming back, so you can't really wait for him," defenseman Brooks Orpik said. "The guys that are going to pull us out of this aren't Sid or (Kris Letang); it's the guys in this room. Obviously we'd love to have those guys in the lineup, but that can't be our attitude right now, we can't wait for those guys." The Penguins, though, tried to remain upbeat following their latest loss. Orpik said he liked the effort, especially compared to the way the team played in a 5-1 loss to Ottawa on Tuesday at Consol Energy Center. Pascal Dupuis cheap burberry purse said the mood on the bench was good and the atmosphere before the game made it feel like the Penguins were going to finally snap out of their funk. But Vokoun had other ideas. "You know what, we did play the right way and Vokoun played well," Dupuis said. "I think we had a lot of chances on him, a lot of chances to tie it up with two, three, four minutes left and it doesn't seem to find the back of the net right now. Today feels like one step toward the right direction. We'll get it back." The Penguins forechecked hard and limited Washington to only 12 shots on goal through 40 minutes, but the Capitals still took a 1-0 lead into the third period thanks to Chimera's 14th goal of the season. Chimera scored on a breakaway after Joel Ward forced Evgeni Malkin to give the puck up at the far blue line with 4:35 to play in the first period. Malkin tried to skate into the teeth of the Capitals defense, but Ward got his stick on the puck and poked it up the right wing boards. Jeff Halpern chased it down and with Zbynek Michalek bearing down on him, he found Chimera streaking down the middle of the ice and hit him with a perfect pass. Chimera did the rest, racing in on Fleury and shooting between his blocker and right pad to give the Capitals the lead. Chimera's goal moves him within three of his career high and ties him with the likes of Rick Nash and Zach Parise, among others, this season. "(Ward) is one of those guys who uses a very long stick and he made a great play stripping the puck," Chimera said. "Then as soon as I saw Halpy (Halpern) in front of the guy, I knew we were gone on a 2-on-1, and I don't think their guy saw me behind him. Halpy made a great pass and it was off from there. It's nice to finish those ones off when you get the chance." The Penguins had a several chances late in the third period, but Dustin Jeffrey, who was playing for the first time since Nov. 3, hit the goal post on a sharp angle attempt off a rebound. Vokoun made five saves in the final five minutes, including two on Malkin and a pair on James Neal. Bylsma pulled Fleury with 1:19 to play and the Penguins continued to buzz around the offensive zone, but they never got another shot on Vokoun. Halpern blocked a pair of shots, and Dupuis and Chris Kunitz misfired, Burberry women t-shirts, cheap burberry short t-shirts for women outlet as the Capitals closed out a win that both put them back in the top eight and dropped the slumping Penguins out of it.

The snow-weary community of 2,200

The snow-weary community of 2,200 was promised new Burberry bags, cheap burberry handbags outlet, buy 2012 burberry purse shovels to be manufactured Thursday and delivered two days later — but it will be too late for the "couple more feet" of snow that touched down Tuesday, accompanied by winds of 25 to 40 mph and gusts to 55. The latest storm hit much of south-central Alaska. Avalanches along the Seward Highway closed the only route south out of Alaska's largest city, cutting off Anchorage from neighborhoods to the south in Girdwood. Department of Transportation spokesman Rick Feller said the department followed up with an even larger induced avalanche using explosives fired from a military-style howitzer. "That showed there was a lot of pent-up energy, and it's been released," he said. The highway will remain closed until noon Wednesday. The storm knocked out power to parts of Homer on the Kenai Peninsula. Drifts accumulated to 7 feet, Feller said, and the city put out an advisory to boat owners that 16 inches of snow could accumulate and boats should be cleared. KMXT-radio in Kodiak said flights to the island city had been canceled and three boats sank in local harbors from the weight of snow. In Valdez, the terminus of the trans-Alaska pipeline, forecasters issued a blizzard warning through Wednesday afternoon, with winds to 45 mph and accumulations of 9 of 17 inches of snow on the Richardson Highway at Thompson Pass, the road access out of the community. Cordova, a fishing community famed for wild Copper River salmon, may have been hardest hit. Since Nov. 1, the city has received 176 inches of snow and 44.24 inches of rain, at times increasing the weight of the snow as it piled up to 6 feet high on roofs. Accumulations on roofs and walls damaged four commercial buildings and two homes, Marquette said by phone. The threat of such collapses prompted the evacuation cheap burberry men of an apartment complex, where weight on the roof jammed doorways and windows, making it a fire hazard, Marquette said. The Red Cross has turned the city recreation center into an emergency shelter. Dealing with the white stuff has turned into a near military operation. City, state and federal authorities set up a command center to organize its response to the snow emergency. One task: deciding who gets their roof or entryway shoveled first. The community set up a call-in number to report access problems or roof hazards. "We're sending out teams to assess," Marquette said. "Everybody thinks it's serious, but you have to go out and assess to prioritize ones that need it the most." The Alaska National Guard has sent over 57 soldiers, mostly to wield shovels. The U.S. Coast Guard contributed at least 20 personnel to clean docks and help maintain heavy equipment. A "tremendous outreach" of volunteers helped their neighbors clear roofs or clear paths to buildings, Marquette said. But as they perform the backbreaking work of moving snow by hand, they're running through shovels. "Part of it is, the light fluffy snow is no more," Marquette said. "It's the heavier, wetter stuff. A lot of these shovels are plastic. These are big strong people, and so you're bound to have some equipment that gets damaged and broken. So we need to keep replenishing and repairing and getting those back out on the line so they can get the work done." The city was looking for ice chisels, snow shovels and snow scoops that push snow. "Those are real handy for flat roofs, and we were short on those," Marquette said. "So what they've been doing is using tarps — those blue plastic tarps — and then shoveling snow on them and dragging the tarps to the edge and flipping them off. That's been working pretty well but it would still be more efficient and faster if they could use regular snow scoops." Coast Guardsman cleared docks at one Cordova harbor and worked on another Tuesday. National Guard soldiers had concentrated on city buildings such as the museum, library and high school and "put a good dent into the situation," Marquette said. Ice on the city hospital made shoveling hazardous and workers dug from their knees, he said. Danger from the storm Tuesday kept volunteers off roofs but cheapburberryoutlet2012 soldiers worked throughout the day, Marquette said. Shoveling can create a small avalanche on the building, he said.

Asia-Pacific policy makers are juggling

“Given benign inflation conditions burberry outlet 2012 and a favorable inflation outlook, we have room to support domestic activity should the global economy deteriorate significantly,” Governor Amando Tetangco said in an interview in Manila today, ahead of a policy meeting later this month. “More importantly, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas is prepared to employ policy tools as may be appropriate to boost domestic economic growth as long as current readings on price and financial stability will allow.” Asia-Pacific policy makers are juggling the need to guard against inflation with mounting pressure to shield their economies from Europe’s sovereign-debt woes, which have imperiled the region’s exports. Indonesia, Thailand, and Australia started cutting interest rates last year while the Philippines, Malaysia, and India have refrained from lowering borrowing costs. “In a world where exports are going be soft Burberry watches, designer burberry watch cheap outlet 2012 in the first half of the year, it makes sense for the central bank to lower interest rates to boost private investment, consumption,” said Matt Hildebrandt, a Singapore-based economist at JPMorgan Chase & Co. “Inflation looks pretty subdued at this point and a rate cut can come as early as this month.” The yield on benchmark bonds due January 2022 rose five basis points, or 0.05 percentage point, to 5.25 percent, according to 2:25 p.m. prices at Amstel Financial Services. The Philippine Stock Exchange Index rose and the peso fell, according to Tullett Prebon Plc. Bangko Sentral kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 4.5 percent for a fifth meeting in December after two increases earlier in 2011. It also raised the reserve requirement twice, bringing the ratio to 21 percent. Policy makers next meet to decide on borrowing costs on Jan. 19. The monetary authority may cut its benchmark policy rate or reduce banks’ reserve ratio as it forecasts inflation this year and next to average closer to the low-end of a 3 percent to 5 percent target, Tetangco cheap burberry bags said today.

Belgian Clijsters

Belgian Clijsters, who beat China's Li cheapburberryoutlet2012 Na to win at Melbourne Park last year, retired hurt during her semi-final against Daniela Hantuchova at the Brisbane International on Friday, complaining of tightness in her hip. An MRI scan had diagnosed a muscle spasm on Clijsters's tensor fascia lata, a muscle on the outside of the hip, a report on the Australian Open website said on Saturday. "With this one I kind of have an okay feeling," the report quoted the four-times grand slam champion as saying. "If everything comes out okay it should take a little (less than) a week to get completely healed. "I felt my left hip was getting tighter and tighter to the point I couldn't move forward with my upper body. "The smartest choice was not to let it get any worse and try to be right for Melbourne." Clijsters would have intensive treatment over the next few days and have a second check-up on Wednesday, the report said. Her fellow former world number one Serena Williams, another player to pull out of the Brisbane tournament injured, has had her leadup to the year's first grand slam disrupted with a twisted ankle, but arrived in Melbourne on Saturday. "I'm doing everything to heal up," Williams said on her Twitter account with a picture of her next to a private jet with her entourage. In the men's draw, Roger Federer remains under a cloud after pulling out of the Qatar Open with a back injury following a grinding quarter-final win over Andreas Seppi, but said he was optimistic of proving his fitness burberry handbags in time for Melbourne Park.

Because everyone is finally realizing it's not safe for the eternally emo teen to stick around. Tyler (Michael Trevino) compelled Jeremy to take off his handy dandy ring and stand in front of a car (Not cool, Klaus!), but Alaric (Matt Davis) pushed him out of the way at the last minute, taking a car to the body in the name of protecting his dead ex-girlfriend's nephew. All together now: Aw! After killing a hybrid and dealing with far too much tragedy in such a short time, Jeremy knows it's time to leave, which is why he lets Damon compel him to forget everything. McQueen, Dobrev, Davis, Somerhalder, they were all superb in the scene. All the tears! So could Elena's baby bro be gone from MF...for good? For now, the CW is keeping the details of when—or if— Jeremy's returning to town a secret. However, a solid source assures us that Jeremy (McQueen) will be seen again Moncler Jackets Women,Moncler Jackets for Women, cheap jackets for women shop online on the show soon, and although he may be off the series for a little while, he will not be gone forever. Relieved?

I'm not here to address anything

Authorities believe Burkhart, angry over his mother's legal troubles, went on a nighttime rampage of burning parked cars a day after she made an initial court appearance last week. On Tuesday, court documents were unsealed that revealed Burkhart's mother is charged in their native Germany with 19 counts of fraud, including failing to pay for a 2004 breast-augmentation surgery cheap moncler jackets and pilfering security deposits from renters. "I'm not here to address anything related to your son," Nagle responded. Both mother and son are being held without bail. Her next court hearing was delayed until Friday so she can hire an attorney, and charges could be filed against Burkhart as early as Wednesday. Harry Burkhart was taken into custody after authorities received a tip from federal officials who recognized him in a security video that showed a pony-tailed man emerging from a garage where a car was set ablaze.

"When they saw the security footage, they recognized him and they contacted the arson task force," a State Department official told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigations are ongoing. Burkhart arrived in the U.S. in October and his non-immigrant visa is set to expire Jan. 18, authorities said.  Outside Harry Burkhart's Hollywood apartment, some neighbors described him as a loner who loitered around the busy commercial strip at night and could be heard arguing with his mother. But Shlomo Elady, a hair stylist who regularly trimmed Burkhart's long hair, recalled someone who spoke three languages, dreamed of visiting Jerusalem and cared for a sickly mother who had trouble walking. Elady said he was stunned that the man who lived with his mother above his Sunset Boulevard shop is suspected of torching vehicles, some just steps from his home. "He loved his mom, the way every son loves his mom," Elady said. "He's not a creepy guy." Galina Illarionova, who lives in the same apartment complex as the suspect, said through a Russian translator that an agitated Burkhart visited her Sunday and said his mother was having some kind of legal problems.

He told her his mother was in trouble with authorities and wanted Illarionova to attend a legal hearing with him, but he later said he didn't need her help.
